Samaritan Behavioral Health, Inc.
SBHI provides substance services for adults, and we are a mental health provider for the entire lifespan.
Samaritan Behavioral Health
We have been providing mental health services and substance treatment that has evolved and changed since 1968! We have a unique position in that we are a community health center within a large hospital system- Premier Health. One of our roles is to be a bridge to the psychiatric inpatient units and provide ongoing outpatient treatment to those being discharged and to provide counseling, (individual, group, and family), case management and psychiatric services for behavioral health services. We serve in Preble, Miami, Warren, and Montgomery counties and all these sites provide the services aforementioned.
Behavioral Health Services
Preble County: We have been serving in Preble County since 1999 and SBHI is the only community mental health center in the entire county. This is a rural setting, and we even offer transportation services due to no transportation being available. We bring those patients in for their therapy or medical appointment. At this site we serve from ages four to the end of the lifespan. We also serve the severally mentally ill, general mental health, provide crisis 24/7 to the county and provide intensive case management in the community as well as Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS).
Miami County: We are co-located on the Upper Valley Medical Campus next to the inpatient unit for our services in Miami County. We also provide services in Piqua and West Milton and Troy City school districts via this office. SBHI began providing services for Miami County in 2014. We provide general mental health services and refer out for substance treatment. We also begin our services at age four to the end of the lifespan.
Warren County: This is our newest office that just began March 2023 co-located next to the inpatient at Atrium Hospital. We also provide a step down for adult patients coming off the inpatient unit and are available to the community to provide treatment for youth and adult patients with behavioral health issues for the entire lifespan. We also provide services to the Butler County area from this office site given the proximity to this county from Atrium Hospital.
Montgomery County: This is our biggest site and located at One Elizabeth Place. We occupy space on the first and fourth floors. We have our Consumer Advocacy Program (CAM) program that we took over operation from Wright State University in 2015. This program serves adults only who are usually dual diagnosed with a severe mental illness, often addicted or challenged developmentally. We are serving the deaf in this program. Clinically speaking this is one of the most challenging populations that we treat, and we are committed to providing ongoing services. In addition to counseling, groups, and psychiatric management we also have intensive case managers going into the community and networking for our patients
.
School Services: SBHI has contracts in Montgomery and Miami Counties to deliver mental health counseling along with prevention work in some schools. We embed our therapists in these school settings and provide supervision and oversight with our directors going into the school setting and offering supervision times to support their work.
Prevention Services: This program provides Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) to the school settings that we have agreements with. Our role is to determine if a student has mental health or substance use issues and needs referred for care. Once screened and if it is determined they need follow up we make the referral to a provider of their choice. We also provide Second Steps, which is a program that helps students build social-emotional skills so they can thrive in school and in life. Examples would include teaching skills to manage emotions or aid the students on how to set realistic goals and have positive relationships. In addition, we have United Against Violence that is a program that aids youth on how to interact in their communities in non-violent ways. Our goal is to help youth, and adults through development of knowledge and skills and that they will better be equipped to stop the cycle of violence in our community.
Intake Services: In this program we provide non-medical diagnostic evaluations for both our mental health and substance services for all age ranges. This is truly our front door and how an individual begins their treatment journey once a diagnosis has been rendered.
Integrated Care Solutions (ICS): This is our largest outpatient program serving from age 9 to the end of life on the fourth floor of Elizabeth Place. Within this program we are serving general mental health and addressing many cases with trauma, depression, and anxiety. We receive many self-referrals as well as from Children Services and other area agencies. Located within this program we have our psychiatric services.
Young Children Assessment and Treatment Services (YCATS): serves from infancy to age 8 years. Within this program we are doing a great deal of family therapy, groups and work within the community that includes prevention and consultation in preschools and daycare centers. We also deliver services on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Miami Valley Hospital. We collaborate with parents on parenting skills and helping our youngest patients learn social skills and manage their behavioral issues. Our view is that the work must be done from a family perspective to build a positive foundation for our patients.
Substance Services: We provide outpatient services (to adults only) that include outpatient, intensive outpatient and medication assisted treatment and withdrawal management as well as the DAWN project. We also offer case management; peer support services and sessions can be individual or group based.
