St. Paul's Community Center (SPCC)

SPCC supports people experiencing homelessness by providing services that promote self-sufficiency and positive life changes in a caring environment.

St. Paul's Community Center was established in 1978 to provide food, shelter, support services, and housing referrals for individuals experiencing homeless and indigence prioritizing services to those diagnosed with mental health issues.. Our goal is to provide a period of stabilization for these individuals, the most under-served in our community, and help them obtain the assistance they need to live self-sufficient, satisfying, and productive lives.

St. Paul’s has five major programs:

1. The Shelter: Includes 35 emergency shelter beds for adults age 18 and older, serving more than 200 clients each year. SPCC specializes in assisting individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and long term homelessness. Residents work with a case-manager to create individualized goals for securing permanent housing, healthcare, income, and/or education within the larger community.

2. The Food Program: Approximately 73,000 meals are prepared and served each year to individuals in need of a hot meal in downtown Toledo, whether they reside in shelter or not.

3. Winter Crisis: An overnight program during the coldest months of the year, offering a place to sleep, hot showers, warm clothing, dinner, and breakfast for individuals experiencing homelessness (in addition to the 35 shelter beds). About 45 guests are able to set up cots in the cafeteria space overnight to stay warm.

4. Housing Stability: SPCC provides Rapid Rehousing case management support after individuals are housed in order to increase self-sufficiency and help individuals transition to independent living.

5. Representative Payee Program: This homeless prevention program provides budgeting and financial management assistance for more than 600 individuals with disabilities who receive Social Security or other benefits.
